Term four, and the last term for the year, of Coding and Robotics have started and participants have blown us away with how great they are at coding! Week one at Capalaba consisted of learning about pseudo code with Lego mazes. The lesson started off with participants learning about what Pseudo code is and how it is applied in everyday life. Then it was the challenges of the lesson to build a maze using Lego, then write down instructions of how to navigate their maze and see if another participant can successfully move through the maze according to the instructions. It was interesting seeing how each child built their maze and wrote their code and how well the other children worked through the mazes. Some participants wrote turn right then move, turn left and then move and some simply wrote turn right, turn left and moved through the maze like that. So it was up to the participants to figure out which way was correct. I explained that pseudo code is like a recipe, you need to know exactly what to do in each step. The participants went back and readjusted their code and all mazes were successfully walked through.
