Week 6 consisted of building and coding robots ready for the sumbot challenge. We started the lesson with a discussion on what the participants wanted to achieve with their sumobot. Did they want their robot to seek out other robots and push them out of the ring? Did they want their robot to run and hide? Did they want their robot to stand still and deflect others?
Of course, it was decided that everyone wanted their robot to seek out others and push them out of the ring. With everything that the attendees have learnt over the last 5 weeks, it was time to code their ultimate sumobot. We had some basic rules that participants had to follow such as having their robot wait 2 seconds in the ring before looking for other robots and participants also had to have their colour and ultrasonic sensors attached and coded as well. This made sure that everyone had the same equipment and chance of winning.
Well done to everyone today! The sumobot challenge is upon us next week… Who will be the ultimate winner!
Welcome to Code Redlands
Code Redlands is a STEAM and robotics program dedicated to creating a an environment where we can explore, learn and create. With Digital Literacy a new focus for the future, we want to augment digital literacy skills by offering space, technology, and facilitators. We hope to equip the next generations of Queenslanders with STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) skills to find their own place in an increasingly digital world.
Redland Libraries offer School Holiday Activities throughout the year for children aged 8 and above.
