Last term was a lot of fun. We got to see all of the students learn the basics of Scratch as a platform for creating animations and games. All of their projects are available from the Week 5 studio of the coderedlands Scratch site. I hope everyone involved continues to experiment with Scratch and even participate with the Scratch online community. We are now looking to package up what we have learned from the awesome folks at the State Library of Queensland (Thanks Danny, Ian, and Nell!) and roll it out at our other branches. Good times ahead!
On October 13th, we will be starting another term of our Code Redlands club that will focus on web development. Although it probably doesn't have the same zazziness that making games and animations does, we think it is important to explore. Where would the internet be without all of the awesome websites we visit every day? Plus, the outlook for jobs is pretty great (not that you students need to be thinking about that too hard yet). It can be pretty fun to create a website of your own from scratch, and we are pretty excited to see what our participants come up with!
Welcome to Code Redlands
Code Redlands is a coding and robotics program dedicated to creating a an environment where we can explore, learn and create. With Digital Literacy a new focus for the future, we want to augment digital literacy skills by offering space, technology, and facilitators. We hope to equip the next generations of Queenslanders with STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) skills to find their own place in an increasingly digital world.
