It has been a busy last few weeks at Capalaba STEAM Club! We have been doing an array of different activities and coding.
We started off week 6 with CodeCombat, which is a python based coding game, and creating pom-pom catapults out of rubber bands and Popsicle sticks. The participants loved creating their catapults and competing with each other to see who could get their pom-pom closest to the finish line.
In week 7, it was E-smart week, so the focus this week was how participants could navigate the online community as safe as they could. We watched a short video on how to be e-smart and decided that with being an e-smart superhero, our coding and craft should match. The participants coded a Wonder Woman based coding challenge and once they finished, they created a superhero cutout of themselves with how they pledge to be e-smart in the future.
In our last week of Term 3 STEAM Club, participants could choose their favourite coding style or activity from the term to complete for the lesson. We had participants coding Minecraft and Stars Wars in Hour of Code to participants coding their very own game in Scratch. It was fantastic to see how much everyone learnt this term! For this week’s STEAM Craft activity, we decided that it would be a challenge to see if a peg and Popsicle stick domino chain could be made. It was definitely a challenge, but participants took it in their stride and nearly completed the chain (So close! It kept blowing over from the fan).
Everyone did an amazing job this term with learning to code and creating STEAM Craft. Well done to everyone. We look forward to seeing you in Term 4.

Welcome to Code Redlands
Code Redlands is a STEAM and robotics program dedicated to creating a an environment where we can explore, learn and create. With Digital Literacy a new focus for the future, we want to augment digital literacy skills by offering space, technology, and facilitators. We hope to equip the next generations of Queenslanders with STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) skills to find their own place in an increasingly digital world.
Redland Libraries offer School Holiday Activities throughout the year for children aged 8 and above.
