Monsters were the theme of last term at Cleveland with our participants asked to make a Kaiju.
Our narrative was that our baby was kidnapped by an evil corporation in Megalopolis, we had to rescue our baby, take it back to the sea from where we rose and accrue points from successful detection, collecting the kaiju baby, destroying the city, monster design and the area the Kaiju traveled.
Over 7 weeks we designed our Kaiju, with monsters based on scorpions, turtles, crabs, dogs and even elephants.
Learning outcomes included design thinking, computational thinking, some new conditional programming and of course the joy of watching your Kaiju destroying Megalopolis!
This term in Steam club at Cleveland our group created a retro platform game.
Each participant created their own level and using scratch we joined them all together.
Our intrepid hero navigated rivers or boiling lava, jumped untold platforms, avoided a myriad of monsters to warp their way beneath Buckingham palace and retrieve the magic wand.
We learned some principles of game design, story narration, sprite design and even a little coding.
Download the link the link below to play our creation, you will also need an offline version of scratch (preferably scratch 2) to play it. We will try to upload the game to the website as soon as possible, but with the change in version, in may take a little time.
Thanks to all the participants for such an awesome creation.
See you next term.

Welcome to Code Redlands
Code Redlands is a coding and robotics program dedicated to creating a an environment where we can explore, learn and create. With Digital Literacy a new focus for the future, we want to augment digital literacy skills by offering space, technology, and facilitators. We hope to equip the next generations of Queenslanders with STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) skills to find their own place in an increasingly digital world.
Redland Libraries offer School Holiday Activities throughout the year for children aged 8 and above.
